MY FAVORITE ARTISTS

In this page I will talk about my favorite art pieces and artists in general, and explain why I like them. Art takes a lot of different forms, but here I will focus on visual arts.

This page is divided in two categories : art pieces and artists. I make that difference because sometimes I like only one or two art pieces, and other times I enjoy all of the artist's works. I include online artists that I follow on social medias in the second category. There is no specific order, I enjoy all of these artists' artworks the same way, and they all have/had some influence on my own art. Some of the following pieces may be considered disturbing.

Art Pieces

I consider The Raft Of The Medusa to be my favorite painting. The first time I saw it, I was a child. My mom took me to the Louvre and, at that time, I was really into mythology. The first thing I felt when I saw this painting was disappointment, because I thought it would be about Medusa, the mythological figure, and not the boat. I do not really know how these feelings changed afterwards, but I now find this painting to be truly impressive.

Artists

Jhonen Vasquez

Joy Ang

I often say that Joy And and Jhonen Vasquez are my two absolute favorite artists and biggest source of inspiration.
I discovered Joy Ang through Wings of Fire. I basically learned how to draw dragons with Joy Ang's works. There were other sources, obviously, but she is definitly my favorite dragon artist. Of course, this is all linked to the fact that I have dragon autism.

Damien Hirst

Zortartrix

I discovered Zortartrix on Tumblr, and I absolutly adore their artstyle. I don't really know why, but their art kinda reminds me of deviantart xenofiction comics I saw when I was a kid. I've never used Deviantart, and this was before I knew english so I never figured out how to actually read any of these, but I would earch "deviantart comics" on google image and just... look at them. I get the same feeling of awe and respect of seeing someone who is clearly better at art than me, and it makes me want to work more in order to get better at art myself. One thing I especially like about Zortartrix's art is how you can clearly see the character's personality in each piece, how you can find snippets of lore in them. It really makes me wqnt to learn more about each character. The setting for the story is dystopian, and there is a lot of lab-based horror, which I really like ! Zortartrix specializes in horses and dragons. As a huge dragon enthusiast, I was obviously interested in their characters. However, I also really really like how they draw horses ! I don't consider myself a huge horse fan, but they are indeed beautiful animals, and I feel like Zortartix has a really unique way to draw them, which I like a lot.

Gunk

I discovered Gunk when I was at a camping. There was a wifi spot in the main plaza, next to the pool and the restaurant. I'm pretty sure there was a musician playing bad music too. Anyway. I don't exactly remember how I stumbled upon their work, perhaps through YouTube. At that point in time, I was in some sort of self-restrictive mindset about my art. More specifically, I liked colorful sparklefurs and gorey stuff but was a bit too afraid of judgement to try and experiment with that. That night, I discovered several other tjings along with Gunk's art : I discovered Bogleech and Awful Hospital, a certain webcomic, Rufus Rex's website and Newgrounds. But above all, I found Vermin Haywired's website. Gunk's art was, to me at that time, the pinnacle of everything I wanted to do as an artist : saturated colors, blending funny gore with à cartooney artstyle, mad science themes and monsters... This was the moment I also decided that I would make my own website on Neocities. But may I remind you, I was in a camping, with à single wi-fi spot and, quite frankly, bad connexion. So I decided to wait 'till I am home to explore the Vermin Haywired website more and look at all of Gunk's art. There was about a week left to my vacation, so in the meantime I imagined a project in which I'd allow myself to be more free with what I did, and so Disco Zombie was created. By the time I got home, and finally decided that now was the right time for me to check back on Gunk's works, they vanished off the internet. So I never really could see all of their work, all I had in my memories was the "vibe" of his works. It continued to inspire me. More recently, it influenced Mad Lab Monsterz.
As you may know, Gunk is now back online, to some extend. I was quite surprised to see a notification from his youtube channel pop up on my phone screen. Anyway, I am glad to know that they're healthy and didn't die in a ditch or something. I got to interact with them a bit during their art streams, it was fun.
I recently started taking commissions (as in : me paying) and I am so happy that my first commission ever was from them !!!

XxHamTubexX

I discovered HamTube, also known as Ronnie or Stan, during Artfight. I really feel like Artfight 2025 was my best artfight ever, I discovered so many awesome artists and feel like I made so much progress with my art. Anyway, I was looking for evil doctor characters when I stumbled upon Dr. Faithful. I immediatly got interested in their characters and story, Going Feral. Of course the first thing that appealed to me was his artstyle. It oh so perfectly encapsulate 2000's cartoon energy. It was like uncovering a really obscure animated show that was considered lost media or something. And more than their artstyle, it is clear that they care deeply about their ocs. As someone who is extremly attached to his ocs, It made me even more interested in their story. I find some similarities between Going Feral and Mad Lab Monsterz, because of the themes of mad science, torture, trauma and psychological horror, which made me even more curious about the story. Like, I can't stress how much I am interested in Going Feral. It's kinda like having a hyperfixation with something that doesn't (yet) exist ? The same thing happened with Vermin Haywired when I first discovered Gunk too. Anyway, yeah, I LOVE his art and would really love to commission him too !
As I just said I love their art, but also their character desing ! It is a theme that is common when I talk about my favorite artists, but that is something I'm really sensitive about. My favorite designs are Arshes, Chip and Blizzard as well as Dr. Faithful for Going Feral. Also rlly like Marina. For a while I wondereed if their art was 2d rigs like flash animated cartoons. I really like how their style complement their character designs, also looking at their sona made me feel less hesitant about making my own kinsonas and comfortsonas. Working on them rn hehe.

Zygsev

I discovered Zygsev through ArtFight, and was immediatly captivated by their artstyle. It's just so angular and funky, snoutment are just so interesting to look at. I attacked them during ArtFight, and snoutment are very fun to draw as well ! I really like the colors used by Zygsev, and how they incorporate geometrical shapes in their art. Overall, their art make me think of a really obscure and experimental animated show that is now lost media. Kinda specific, heh. Zygsev also gives lots of details about their charcaters, the locations and different concept used in their story on their toyhouse. It's really interesting to read, it's well-organized, and it makes me think that I really should actually work more on my website to put all of the infos about my characters, and perhaps rework my own toyhouse.

snake-wing

I kinda discovered him by chance on instagram. I opened it one day and was greeted by his art. I absolutly LOVE his character designs ! As well as his artstyle, the lineart is so scrunchy. I love the themes of horror used in the designs, they're all so unique and interesting. It appears that he mainly does adopts, and I'd LOVE to get a design from him one day.

Robot_teeth

I discovered him through ArtFight, much like many artists I like. I was looking for mad scientist characters and boy, does this artist delivers in that department. Evil-looking characters, aliens and robots everywhere, what more can I ask for ? Add to that an incredibly cool and cartoony arstyle, and there you have the recipe for me to get invested in the characters and story.

ivyking214

I discovered ivyking214 on Toyhouse. I strongly admire her character designing skills, I especially love her draconic designs (I mean, I do love dragons, heh), and for a while I hoped to one day own a design from her. This unexpectedly happened when I won a raffle she hosted. The character in question is the one after the yellow dragon, entitled "Mecha Blood Reaper" (I have yet to find a name for this character). I am not used to draw mechas, but it is never too late to learn !
