The Life of Fango follows Fango, a dog who was brutally murdered by his own brother. Coming back from the dead to avenge himself, he meets by chance Zéro, his newly born nephew, and has to decide between taking care of this new member of his family, or ignore him and kill his brother, leaving Zéro alone with little chance of survival.
ACT 2 :
Coming back from the dead once again, but without any memories, Fango must embrace his new role of guiding lost souls to the underworld. With new friends made along the way, he meets Zéro and Ather once again, without recongizing them. With the two pups insisting that they used to live together, Fango makes a deal with a demon : he recovers all of his memories, but in exchange, he has to keep being the soul guide for all eternity.
This universe is one of my oldest, Fango being one of the oldest character I've created. In fact, the first ever character I've created, Lucy, lives in this universe !

While humans do exist, the main focus of this universe is stray dogs. Other animals appear too, but the main ones are canids.
Magic also exists, in some way. The afterlife and ghosts exist. It is not possible for animals to use magic, but some other beings can, in some extend.
There are three main types of beings : animals, ghosts and demons.
Animals are, well, animals. They can talk, but are not understood by humans. I really wish to stress how unimportant humans are in this story.
Ghosts are animals who had an "unfinished business" when they died. They can be vengeful spirits, or be a tad more peaceful. When this occurs, the animal's soul gets stuck in limbo, instead of joining the underworld. When it finally breaks
free of this place, they get reincarned as ghosts. Their goal is to accomplish a "vengeance", which basically means finishing their unfinished business. Ghosts cannot be exposed to sunlight, otherwise they get hurt.
There are several types of ghotst : the Skulls, the Wandering Souls and the [???], as well as hybrids.
Skull ghosts are formed when an animal is brutally murdered unjustly. Their vengance is to kill their killer(s).
Examples : Fango, Jawie.
Wandering ghosts are formed when an animal dies but still has something to hold on to. Their vengance is to find that thing. Examples : Angel, Ghost, Jawie.
[???] ghosts are ghosts who had a goal but died before reaching said goal. Examples : Red Maw, Dullahan.
Hybrid ghosts are ghosts that correspond to several ghost types at once. Examples : Jawie is both a skullcat and a wantering soul.
Demons are the only beings capable of using magic. They are governed by the Devil. They reside in the underworld, where all almost all souls go. Their role is to make sure no soul who commited grave crimes gets into the underworld. When
they encounter such a soul,
they destroy it. For example, Cézar would not be able to get into the underworld, and will have his soul destroyed.
Another role of demons is to make sure no stray soul gets stuck on in living realm. In order to do so, they randomly pick a soul in the underworld to help them gather those lost souls, using a train as a method of transport.
There are three "areas" in the underworld : Limbo, the Underworld and Eden.
Limbo is the "corridor" towards the Underwold, that is where all souls go to when they leave their bodies. Sometimes, souls cannot find the entrance to Limbo, and become stray souls. Limbo is where demons decides if a soul can pass into
the Underworld or if it gets destroyed.
The Underworld is the "main room", this is where all souls reside. During their time in the Underworld, a soul takes its time to mourn its past life. It will gradually loose its memories, until it is a blank soul.
When a soul has completly mourned its past life, it moves on to Eden. This is where souls stay until they get reincarnated into another being.
CHARACTERS
ACT 1
Fango

Fango is an adult male skullwolf. Before his death, his name was Néro. His brother Cézar murdered him out of jealousy by pushing him under a car. This event caused his soul to get stuck in Limbo, and he got reincarned a few years after. Now renamed Fango, he began looking for Cézar in odrer to accomplish his vengeance.
However, he discovered a young pup named Zéro. Zéro was Cézar's son, and Fango couldn't bring himselfto leave this poor pup, his nephew, alone. He then tried to bring him back to his mother, only to find that Cézar had murdered her. Fango decided to abandon his vengeance to take care of Zéro, and they grew very close.
But, with time, Fango ended up killing Cézar to be sure that Zéro would be completly safe, and he vanished into the underworld. Until one day, he was back, without any memories. His soul was picked to be the next lost soul guide, guided by Lucy, a demon. For a few months they travelled and befriended other ghosts who were now travelling with them. During one of his travels, he met Zéro again, but he did not recognize him Fango asked Lucy to give him his memories back. She accepted, but at the cost that he would have to be the guide forever. Fango accepted, and with all of his memories back, he kept on travelling with his new friends and his nephew.
Zéro

Zéro is Cézar's and Skye's son and Fango's nephew. He and his mother have been suffering Cézar's anger and paranoia, trying to escape him multiple times, but never succeeding. One night he got separated from Skye and encountered Fango, who, after discovering that they were related, decided to take care of him until he was safe. However, when they discovered that Skye has been murdered, Fango promised to stay with him. But Cézar's menace became grew in size and Fango eventually decided to kill him, leaving Zéro alone with Arachnéa and Ather.
That is, until he and Ather encountered Fango again. But when he discovered that Fango has lost his memories, he thought that they could never go back to living together. Thankfully, Fango was able to recover his memories and Zéro, relieved, gladly went back to living and travelling with his uncles and the new ghosts he befriended along the way.
Cézar

Cézar is Fango's younger brother and Zéro's father. Cézar never liked his brother, he never knew why, but he didn't. In fact, he did not like many animals in his life, but he was good at hiding this and was considered pretty charismatic by the other dogs he knew. The only other dog he's ever loved was Arachnéa, who was Néro's wife. Obsessed with her, he decided that killing Néro was the only was to redirect Arachnéa's attention, and affection, to him. Therefore, he pushed his brother under a car one night. He then went to Arachnéa, hoping that she would welcome him with open arms, but she was heartbroken and would not let Cézar approach her. This made Cézar even more furious.
He ended up having a child with Skye, a dog who's always been in love with him. But even though he did not realize it, the guilt of killing his brother caught up to Cézar, making him more and more paranoiac and violent. He thought that everyone was trying to kill him. In consequence, he hired three mercenaries to protect him at all times. He also grew suspicious of his mate and his son, thinking that they tried to escape him in order to plot against him. So the secondary job of the mercenaries was to make sure that Skye and Zéro never got too far away.
One day, as Skye and Zéro got away without him or the mercenaries noticing, he decided to hunt them down himself and kill them, to make sure they could do no harm to him. He found and murdered Skye and went looking for Zéro. Some time after, the mercenaried found out about him murdering Skye and decided to help Fango locate and kill Cézar. When Fango killed Cézar, his soul was not accepted in the underworld and was destroyed.
Arachnéa
Arachnéa was Fango's wife before he died. She was very much in love with Néro, and his death broke her heart. When Cézar approached her after Néro's death, she categorically rejected him, without even knowing that he had killed her loved one. She moved to live inside of Green Park after this event. She was pregnant when Néro died, but had not had the time to tell him before his death. She named their daughter Ather and raised her alone. With time, the pain, while still there, dulled and Arachnéa mourned Néro's death.
One day, a ghost approached her, telling her that he was Néro's host, now called Fango. At first, Arachnéa could not believe this, but she quickly understood that he was telling the truth. They had a long discussion, about what happened before and after Fango's death. Fango told her that it was Cézar who killed him, and Arachnéa told him that they had a daughter. They were both moved by these discoveries. Arachnéa then told Fango that she had mourned him. Fango told her that he understood and that he was not asking to go back to their old relationship. He asked if he and Zéro could stay in Green park to stay safe, and Arachnéa accepted. Fango and Arachnéa became good friends and Ather and Zéro went along exceptionally well.
After Fango decided to accopmlish his vangeance, she kept on taking care of Zéro. That is, until Zéro and Ather met Fango again and decided to travel with him. Arachnéa prefered to stay in Green Park, but she was happy to know that the two pups would be travelling with Fango.
Ather
Ather is Arachnéa and fango's daughter. Since her father died before her birth, she did not care much aboutb him, until Fango came back. At first, she was wary, and Fango did not blame her for that. AFter all, he was a scary-looking ghost. But with time, they got to know each other and grew closer. Perhaps she wasn't as close to him as he was with Zéro, but they enjoyed eachother's company. Ather wasn't one to show her emotions, appearing a bit rude sometimes. But deep down, she actually cares a lot about the ones who surround her.
When Fango vanished after accomplishing his vengeance, she was sad that Fango wasn't around anymore. As she and Zéro grew up, they started exploring around the city, and that is how they met Fango several months after. When Fango finally got his memories back, she was so happy to be close to him again and gladly accepted to travel with him and Zéro, as well as the other ghosts.
The Mercenaries
The mercenaries consist of Banshee, the leader of the group, Reaper, and Hunter, the new recruit.
While they might appear as heartless killers at first, who would do whatever is asked of them as long as they get paid, these three do know know about Cézar's murderous tendencies, and when they learned that he has killed Skye, they decide to help Fango kill Cézar. Cézar worder his instructions in a way that made them believe he genuinely cared about his and his family's safety.
Hunter used to be Néro's best friend. He was a shy dog, so when Fango found out that he became a mercenary, he was shocked. Hunter, being a new recruit, was not treated very kindly by Banshee and Reaper. Those two met each other during a mission where they were assigned together. They became close friends, but both faced hardships that made them naturally less kind than most dogs. But deepdown, they care about him and try to protect him from potential harm.
After Cézar died, the three continued working together as mercenaries.
Skye
Skye was Cézar's mate and Zéro's mother. She was a friend of Néro and Cézar before Fango died. She has always been in love with Cézar, but never had luck with him. After Néro's death, it seemed that Cézar suddenly gained interest in her. Skye was more than happy about this, and they had a son together. However, as time passed, she sarted to notice how Cézar's behavior changed, getting more paranoiac and violent. She repeatedly tried to escape with Zéro, but Cézar's mercenaries would always "bring them back to safety". She never had the chance to tell them the truth, as Cézar was always nearby to stop her from talking.
One night she and Zéro had escaped without getting caught, she noticed the mercenaries lurking around and told her son to run and hide, then to go to Green Park, where she'll meet him later. With them going separate ways, they would have more chances to escape successfully. She ended up arriving first in Green Park. While waiting for her son to arrive, Cézar caught her and murdered her.
ACT 2
Lucy
Lucy is a demon, she is the Devil's daughter. The first role her father gave her was to train and watch over the next soul guide. She thinks highly of her father and wants to make him proud.
Funfact : she is, from what I can recall, the first character I've ever created. She originates from a red devilish-looking bat keychain that I purchased as a kid (or rather, that my mom bought me). Her spear broke on the first day, and I still haven't fixed it yet.
Black and White

Black and White were born as rabbit siamese twins. They died rigth after their birth. As ghost, they got reincarned as tiger/rabbit hybrids. Their vengeance is to experience life, as they had not had the occasion to do so at all. However, because "experiencing life" is such a broad instruction, they are not sure if they will ever be able to reach that goal.
Black is the white one and White is the black one. They each can control the body parts of their colors. While they are twins, their personalities are vastly different. Black is easily irritable, and complains a lot, especially about his brother. WHite rarely talks and seems generally content.
Jawie
Jawie is a skullcat. When he was alive, he was a young adult, he had a mate and two young children, Jay and Gana. However, his father, who had never been kind, turned completly insane for reasons unkown to Jawie, and he murdered him, his mother and his mate as well. Thankfully, his children escaped. His vengeance was to kill his father, his new mate and new children. However, Jawie deemed it unfair to kill his father's new mate and children, as they ignore all of what happened and were innocent in this story. Therefore, his vengeance will never be complete and he will remain forever as a ghost.
Part of his vengeance also include finding his children, which is why he is travelling with Fango. He hopes to find them. And by travelling with the group, he fell in love with Angel. He calls his tail "Eddie", even though it does not have a proper conscience.
Angel and Demon
Angel was a female wolf living in the mountain with her daugher, Life. Ever since she was born, she was haunted by a rogue demon who wished to take control of the living world. However, no one would believe her when she said she heard a voice coming from her mind, which led her to be exiled from her pack with her young daughter. As time passed, it became harder and harder to ignore the demon's voice. The demon slowly took more and more control over Angel's life, until on day he almost took control of her entirely. As Angel was fighting, trying to keep control of herself in orfer to keep her daughter safe, she accidentally tripped and fell down the mountain, dying on impact.
By dying, the demon who almost took all control over her died too, partially. Loosing all of his ability to control magic, he is now a parasite, unable to leave Angel's ghost. Sometimes, Demon successfully take some more control over Angel, but it is limited to stopping her from speaking.
Angel's goal is to find her daughter, life. She tries to do so by travelling with Fango. She eventually fell in love with Jawie.
Dullahan
Dullahan is a headless dog. He was beheaded by surprise. His vengeance is to find the one who killed him. He likes to surprise people by taking off his head, or juggling with it.
Red Maw
Red Maw, mostly referred to as Red, or sometimes Maw, is a fox who died of starvation. His goal is to find a source of food that could last him for a lifetime.
Ghost
Ghost is a small spirit who lost his body. He is currently inhabiting a random wolw corpse untill he finds his actual body. the problem is, he doesn't remember what he looked like.
The Shadow
The Shadow is an amalgamation of lost souls. At first it was just a few souls who fused together. Then it grew somewhat of a conscience, and it is now angry that it cannot go into the underworld. It takes out its rage by absorbing every soul it encounter, whether it is a stay soul or a ghost.
Jay and Gana
They are Jawie's missing children. Jay is his son and Gana is his daughter.
Life
She is Angel's missing daughter
ACT 1
The City
The City is a large, nondescript city in which all of act 1 happens. It is full of stray dogs, who often live in packs made of a few family members and/or friends. However, it is not rare that some dogs perfer living on their own. For example, Néro's pack was formed of himself, Cézar, Arachnéa and Skye. However, after the event of Néro's death, they all went on to live alone.
It appears to always be dark in this city, even during the day.
Green Park
Green Park is a park in the middle of the City. It is called that way by dogs because it contrasts with the grey of the city anf the dark blue of the night sky. This is where Arachnéa goes to raise her daughter. A handful of lone stray dogs live there, they tend to not meddle with each other.
ACT 2
The Devil's Train
The Devil's Train is a magical train that can drive anywhere without needing rails. It can pass through solid objects and drive on water. It is the Devil's propety. It is called like that because of LupisVulpes' Devils Train animations (in fact, the idea of the train comes from this video).
The Forest
A large, nondescript, dark forest in which the Devil's Train seem to stay when it is not travelling. Amongst all forests in which the characters go to, it is unknown if it is the same forest or a different one. It is commonly believed that the "forest" is an entity rather than an actual forest.
The Mountains
A large chain of mountains that are located near the Forest. It is possibly the Mountain same as Jack and Jill's universe.

DETAILED STORY
ACT 1
Néro was a dog with a happy life. He and his partner, Arachnéa, lived peacefully in a pack along with his oldrt brother Cézar and another dog names Skye. Cézar, however, has always been Jealous of Néro. When his younger brother was born, their parents paid less attention to him, almost ignoring him. Néro was aware of it and always tried to include Cézar in his life, but still, Cézar secretly hated him. He was jealous that Arachnéa fell in love with Néro rather than with him. Skye, a childhood friend of Cézar and Néro, has always been in love with Cézar. One night, out of rage, he pushed Néro under a car, killing him. He then looked for Arachnéa to tell her the news that Néro had died, hoping that she would fall in love with him now that Néro was out of the picture. Arachnéa, of course, did not fall in love with Cézar. This drove Cézar to become even more spiteful. He left Arachnéa alone and went with Skye, with whom he had a son : Zéro. As time passed, Cézar also got more paranoiac and started having nightmare about Néro's spirit coming back to kill him. This was caused by Néro's furious soul being trapped in limbo trying to reach him. At some point, his paranoia grew so much that he was convinced that his mate and his son were plotting to kill him. He hired mercenaries and oredered them to keep an eye on them to "keep them safe" and make sure they did not run way.
Meanwhile, Néro's soul was stuck in limbo, confused and angered. As time passed, his soul would not go to rest, and reached back the living world to accomplish his vengeance : killing his brother. Back as a vengeful ghost, he had a new apparence and a new name : he was now Fango, the skullwolf. He went back to the city where he and his brother used to live. As a ghost, he could not go outside in the sunlight, it hurt him. Instead, he hid the day and searched for Cézar at night.
One night, he found a young pup hiding. The pup got scared when Fango found him, but Fango assured him that he was not after him. The pup asked Fango if he was not sent by his father, and Fango said no. Fango then asked him if he was hiding from said father. The pup said yes. Fango asked if there was someone he could stay with to be safe. The pup answered that he was safe with his mom, but he was afraid his father would follow him to find them both. Fango asked why he was alone. The pup answered that his father engaged mercenaries to find him and that he and his mother took separate ways in order to loose them. Fango took time to think. He did have a mission, but he could not leave this poor pup alone and unsafe. Fango told the pup that he could accompany him and make sure that no one would follow them while the travelled back to his mother. The pup was desperate, but he still was not sure if the canine in front of him was sent by his father, or trustworthy at all. He asked Fango to take off his mask. Fango got confused, and told him that it was his face. The pup did not believe him and teied to tug at the "mask". He then realized that it was, indeed, Fango's face ! The pup got even more scared, no dog had an actual skull in place of a face ! Fango told him that he was on a mission to find a specific dog who live in this city. He told the pup that if he helps him locate the dog, he would make sure he gets to his mother safely. The pup agreed. The pup asked what Fango's name was, Fango answered and asked the same thing. The pup answered his name was Zéro.
They agreed to stay hidden and move the next night. During that time, Fango asked about Zéro's father. Zéro answered that he was always angry and violent. Every time he or his mother tried to get away, he'd always find them to bring them back. Lately, he's become even more paranoiac and hired mercenaries to keep him safe and keep an eye on Zéro and his mother. Fango asked what his parents' names were and Zéro answered that his parents were named Cézar and Skye. Zéro fell asleep. Morning was rising, and as a ghost, Fango didn't need to sleep or eat, so he simply waited untill night fell. He thought about what Zéro told him. If Cézar was his father, then Zéro was his nephew. It seemed like Zéro didn't know that his father used to have a brother. Fango wondered what happened to Arachnéa after his death. He only wanted to pursue his vengeance, but now he felt responsible for hid newfound nephew. Fango wanted to help Zéro and Skye away from this situation. This means that he would also need to kill those mercenaries along Cézar.
Zéro woke up near the evening. Fango told Zéro that they would need to wait untill the night fell because sunlight would hurt him. During that time, Zéro asked who was the dog Fango was looking for. Fango hesitated, but finally told him that he was looking for Cézar. Zéro was surprised and asked why. Fango answered that Cézar was his brother, but he murdered him out of jealousy. Zéro was shocked, he did not know that he had an uncle. Fango was expecting this. Fango told Zero thag he would protect him against Cézar and the mercenaries.
The night fell and Zéro guided Fango in the city towards the park where his mother told him they should meet at if they get separated. When they get there, they start looking for Skye. But horror ! They find only her brutally murdered cadaver. The mercenaries must have found her. Zéro is devastated by this, and Fango is even more angered. He must make sure that Zéro is safe, not matter what. But if he killed Cezar, Fango would disappear and Zéro would be left alone, with no one to take care of him if the mercenaries still tried to go after him.
Fango buried Skye's body and Fango let the time to grieve to Zéro. He thought that he should try to find those mercenaries in order to kill them and keep Zéro safe, as well as locating Cézar. But doing this meant putting Zéro in danger. Also, neither him nor Zéro had the slightest idea where those mercenaries were. Fango needed help to take care of all of this. Fango decided he would try to find Arachnéa to ask her what happened after he died, and ask if she knew about those mercenaries.
Fango asked Zéro where Green Park was. Zéro answered that it was the park that they were in. The Park had changed, Fango hadn't recognized it. Fango asked Zéro to guide him to the hill, because that is where Arachnéa used to live so she might still be there. Zéro guided him to the hill and surly, Arachnéa was there. Fango asked Zéro to wait for him. He walked up the hill and called for Arachnéa. She got scared and tried to attack him, but Fango told her that he was Néro and that he didn't mean any harm. Arachnéa did not believe him and asked him to tell her something only Nero would know. And so he did. Arachnéa was shaken by this. She told him how sad shd was when he died, and how Cézar tried to get closer to her. She has tried to stay as far away from him ever since. She did not know that he had a son, and she was sorry for what happened to Skye. She also told him that she had mourned him. Fango said that he understood, he was just looking for infos in order to keep Zéro safe and he wouldn't bother her any more. Arachnea said she was happy to help, and that if he ever needed help with anything else, she would gladly help. Fango thanked her. Arachnéa told Fango that she did not know who exactly those mercenaries were, but she heard rumors of killers for hire staying in an abandonned building nearby. Fango thanked her again and went back to Zéro. He told him about the rumor and that he would try to investigate it, but he did not want to bring Zéro along because it would be too dangerous. Instead, they would stay in the park as Fango took care of him. He could investigate later.
Time passed and Fango and Zéro lived peacefully for a few weeks. Fango and Zéro got to know each other better, and Fango felt thankful that he had a second attempt at life. At times, when Zéro was asleep
